From the supplier: Japan has a well-developed system for evaluating and observing vocational skills. Many statistical tests have been developed for measuring the vocational development and aptitude of people with disabilities. People with physical disabilities in Japan tend to have a narrower range of job options than their US counterparts. This narrower range of options works in conjunction with interpretation aids for vocational evaluators to predict vocational placement levels of disabled persons. US Researchers, studying the possibility of applying the Japanese system, indicate that the system may be useful if testers realize that the potential for misclassification exists. Using the Japanese General Aptitude Test Battery (GATB), 79.5 percent of the disabled persons participating in the study were accurately classified, a significant improvement over the base rate prediction of 62.2 percent using the US Department of Labor approach. Researchers conclude that the Japanese methodology has potential for vocational evaluators in countries where the US Department of Labor test (or an equivalent interpretation tool) is not readily available.
